Obituary for Daniel Murphy
Clinton-Daniel E. Murphy, 83, died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Leominster Hospital after being stricken ill. He is survived by his son John D. Murphy of Dorchester; and adoring grandchildren, Madison, Avery, Seamus, and Niamh; numerous nieces and nephews, notably, Marianne Murphy of Leominster, and Jennifer Murphy and her son Shane, of Lunenburg; and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his longtime companion Mary Baum.
Dan was born in Clinton, son of the late Alfred and Maryanne (Mahan) Murphy. He graduated from the Clinton High School and enlisted to proudly serve our nation in the United States Army during the Korean War. Dan returned home safely and worked as an Engineer for General Electric for more than 25 years until retiring. Proud of his Irish heritage, he enjoyed several trips to the Emerald Isle and held membership with the Friends of Freedom. As an advocate and licensed counselor for those suffering from alcoholism and substance abuse, Dan assisted countless friends in their battles with addiction through his work with the Gavin Foundation in South Boston and beyond. He was a proud patriot, member of the NRA, an avid golfer, and sports fan. Dan was happiest while in the company of his family and will be forever remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 12PM on Friday, December 15, 2017 in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with calling hours prior from 10:30AM-12PM.
