John "Dave" Cravedi
Clinton/West Boylston-John D. “Dave” Cravedi, 82, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by family on Thursday, November 2, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary E. (Ruberti) Cravedi; their children, Nina L. Hicks & husband William of Minot, Maine; Suzanne E. Mahar of Topsham, Maine; Michael D. Cravedi & wife Kim; and David A. Cravedi, all of Sterling. He leaves his sister Carol Hallinan of Clinton; 12 grandchildren, Dylan Hicks & wife Katie, John Hicks & fiancée Adele Breitholtz, Owen, and Althea Hicks, Andrea Webb & husband Cameron, Sage, and Nora Mahar, Justin, Matthew, Sydney, Makayla, and Dawson Cravedi; 2 great-grandchildren, Gunnar Hicks and Easton Webb; numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his infant son, James D. Cravedi, and siblings, Inez Bolick, Lawrence and Paul Cravedi.
Dave was born in Fitchburg, son of the late John & Helen (Kinnunen) Cravedi. He was raised and educated in Clinton and began working in his family business, Cravedi’s Market, at a young age. He enlisted to proudly serve our nation in the US Navy and was stationed to serve aboard the USS Shannon and the USS Warrington. He returned home safely and began working as a self-employed painting contractor before accepting a position with the Sands Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, from where he was employed until retiring. In retirement, he and his family returned to settle in Sterling, and he enjoyed working for several more years with the International Golf Club in Bolton. Dave was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Italian American Veterans Post #68. He enjoyed simple pleasures, watching sports, cooking, tending to his garden, and above all, the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 3 until 5PM.
